Mankai: Kyodo Taiko's 22nd Spring Concert

UCLA Kyodo Taiko is excited to present our 22nd Annual Spring Concert, “Mankai” (満開), on Saturday, May 29th! “Mankai,” which translates to “full bloom,” brings to mind the brilliant and beautiful cherry blossoms which flower in spring. In the spirit of these blooming flowers, Kyodo’s Spring Concert is a showcase of a year’s worth of hard work, growth, and most importantly, fun. This year, members traveled to Westwood from all over the country to record performances — a testament to our love for the art of taiko and the family it has brought us. This may have been a year of social distancing and Zoom practices, but when we’re together — we bloom.

Mankai will be streamed on YouTube on Saturday, May 29th at 7:00 PM PST! Hope to see you all there.

Annual Pilgrimage to Manzanar

Each year, people from all over California come together during the Annual Pilgrimage to Manzanar to preserve the concentration camp and tell the stories of those individuals whom were incarcerated during Executive Order 9066. It is a time in which the community comes together to not only ensure that these voices do not die, but to make sure that it never happens to anybody else - no matter their race, gender, religion. Kyodo is especially honored to have the opportunity to both attend and perform at this program and help keep such stories of courage, bravery, and community, alive.
