Isshin: Kyodo Taiko's 21st Spring Concert

Reserve your free tickets here!

Kyodo Taiko is a Japanese drumming group based in University of California, Los Angeles and was the first collegiate taiko group to be formed in North America. The ensemble is dedicated to bringing the art of taiko and Japanese culture to surrounding communities.

UCLA Kyodo Taiko is proud to present our 21st Annual Spring Concert, “Isshin” (一心), on Saturday, June 1st at the Northwest Auditorium at 7 PM. “Isshin,” which can be translated to “one heart,” is a word that captures the essence of Kyodo. For many years, Kyodo has welcomed individuals from all different backgrounds and has brought us together as one through the art of taiko. Yet, Kyodo has become more than a taiko group - it has become a family, one that fosters ongoing personal and creative growth along with everlasting friendships that extend beyond graduation. This year’s Spring Concert is a culmination of our love for the art of taiko and our appreciation for all the individuals it has brought into our lives.

Annual Pilgrimage to Manzanar

Each year, people from all over California come together during the Annual Pilgrimage to Manzanar to preserve the concentration camp and tell the stories of those individuals whom were incarcerated during Executive Order 9066. It is a time in which the community comes together to not only ensure that these voices do not die, but to make sure that it never happens to anybody else - no matter their race, gender, religion. Kyodo is especially honored to have the opportunity to both attend and perform at this program and help keep such stories of courage, bravery, and community, alive.
